The Road Transport System, Administrations, Partners and Users
Our way of life is dominated by journeys and transport. How do the actors of
the transport system - the travellers and the transport companies, those who
build, maintain or operate the transport system, administrations and private
individuals - co-operate to handle the challenges we face?
The Congress starts off with an assessment of the role of the Nordic
countries in Europe's transport system, and globally, and continues with a
look at the role of people as actors in and objects of the transport
system's operation. The sessions deal with the changes that have taken place
- in the client perspective, the road management market, demands on
competence and skills, data management, research co-operation. We also
analyse the ideas of urban renewal.

The Road Transport System's Products, Services and Impacts
The second day of the Congress deals with the products and services of the
road transport system and their impacts. The plenary session and four other
sessions focus on traffic safety. But we also look at the social and
economic basis for our decisions, both as road managers and as road users,
as well as the consequences for the environment and the community of the
decisions we make.

Future Needs and Challenges
The congress ends with a view to the future - not only for the next four
years leading us to Reykjavik in 2012, but also a long way forward, with a
perspective on the great challenges implied by energy and climate. Will
intelligent technology, new vehicle types or perhaps a new transport system
aid us in meeting them? But we do also need to find answers to the matters
at hand - such as how to recruit new personnel, how to support innovation
and reform.
