HELSINKI CITY TOUR
Time: Monday 9 June at 13:00 - 16:00 (3 h)
Departure from the Congress site


This is a comprehensive tour showing the most important and interesting parts of Helsinki. We will stop at the Senate Square with the University and the Lutheran Cathedral all displaying neo-classical architecture of the 1840´s, following a walk to the colourful Market Square by the sea with a visit at the indoor Market Hall. We are also making stops at Temppeliaukio church, carved into solid rock, as well as at the Sibelius monument, where we have our coffee break at Café Regatta.

The guide will give you tips about restaurants, shopping etc. in Helsinki. The tour ends at your hotel.




SUOMENLINNA FORTRESS TOUR
Time: Tuesday 10 June at 9:30 - 15:00 (5,5 h)
Departure from the Congress site


We take the bus down to the South Harbour, from where we take a ferry to Suomenlinna Fortress, one of the most finest and historical sights in Helsinki, built in 1748 under thecommand of Augustin Ehrensvärd. Today Suomenlinna is a recreation centre with aprrox. 900 inhabitants. In 1991 it was included in the UNESCO's World Heritage list as a major monument of military architecture. We will have a guided walking tour on the island and visit the Ehrensvärd museum, where we will have the opportunity to take part in a programme planned especially for us.

Lunch will be served at an old brewery after which we will return by ferry to the Market Square where the tour ends. Comfortable shoes are recommended.


PORVOO OLD TOWN TOUR BY M/S RUNEBERG

Time: Tuesday 10 June at 9:30 - 16:30 (7 h)
Departure from the Congress site

We take the old steamboat m/s JLL Runberg to Porvoo, which is a picturesque, small medieval city east of Helsinki. We can enjoy the scenery while we have a light archipelago lunch on board. The boat trip takes about 3 hours and when we arrive in Porvoo, there will be a coffee and chocolate tasting in an old coffee roastery with a terrace by the Porvoo river. Now we are ready for a guided walk in the charming old town, including a visit at the medieval cathedral. After this there will be time for us to wander into the small handicraft shops scattered along the cobblestone lanes. The return to Helsinki will be by bus. Comfortable shoes are recommended. The tour ends at your hotel.




PORVOO OLD TOWN TOUR BY BUS
Time: Tuesday 10 June at 9:30 - 16:30 (7 h)
Departure from the Congress site


We are heading towards Porvoo, a small and picturesque medieval city east of Helsinki. Upon arrival we will visit the home of our national poet Johan Ludwig Runeberg, after which we take a trip by the riverboat m/s Fredrika along the Porvoo river to have a better view of the old buildings located by the shore.

Lunch will be served at a nice restaurant in the old town, where we enjoy an archipelago menu. After lunch we have a guided walking tour in the charming old town and make a visit to the medieval cathedral. Before the return to Helsinki we will have a coffee and chocolate tasting in an old coffee roastery by the Porvoo river. Comfortable shoes are recom-mended. The tour ends at your hotel.


NUUKSIO HIKING TOUR
(Limited number of participants)
Time: Tuesday 10 June at 10:00 - 15:00 (5 h)
Departure from the Congress site


We are going by bus into the Nuuksio wilderness area, which is located approx. 35 km from Helsinki. Upon arrival there will be guided hiking in the woods while we explore the beautiful Finnish flora and fauna, and please be aware of not getting lost in the woods! The scenery is majestic due to a wide variety of terrain, where the highest elevations reach more than 100 meters above the sea level. One can climb up the barren rocky hills and explore steep slopes covered with moss on our trek into the heart of this beautiful highland. There is a possibility to bath in a traditional Finnish sauna, located by a lake, and even have a swim. (Towels and shampoo etc. are included). Those who don't want to bath should be prepared for other tasks.

Lunch will be served by open fire and we will drink from our own handmade mugs. After lunch we are heading back to Helsinki. Comfortable shoes are recommended. The tour ends at your hotel.
