Session 5: Will our Children suffer because of our Decisions?

The session looks at how transport policy choices made today enhance or reduce our choices for the future. We focus on the implementation of EU directives in national SEA legislation. The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications' Transport Policy Report is presented and Nordic transport strategies and their impacts are compared.

There are 3 presentations in the session:

1. Directives and legislation obligate authorities to assess and evaluate plans and programs that have significant impacts on people and nature; Rolf Nyström, Uusimaa Regional Environment Centre, Finland.

2. The Finnish Government's program includes the Transport Policy Report, aiming at long-term continuity in transport policy;
Mikko Ojajärvi, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Finland.

3. Nordic countries' and road administrations' strategy documents concerning the transport system up to and after the year 2030.
Hanna Kalenoja and Markus Pöllänen, Tampere University of Technology, Finland.
